The Forgotten Man

The Forgotten Man: "FP: John Updike in the New Yorker and the Economist magazine were the two big negative reviews of The Forgotten Man. Why do you think they were negative?

Shlaes: I'm grateful first of all that the New Yorker and John Updike devoted so much space to the book. I don't think Updike's review is really negative. He just concludes differently, saying -- forgive the paraphrase -- that moot mathematics don't count and our heartfelt relationship with FDR is what mattered. I disagree. Two in ten unemployed, the rate that obtained even, at points, in the late 1930s, five or six years into FDR's tenure, do matter."

Yeah, who cares about reality, it's all about feelings man! I feel like crap today BTW.

Breaking News from the 17th Century

Celebrating Income Inequality: "Consider how the wealthiest individuals in any free economy, businessmen, make their money. The job of a businessman is to orchestrate productive enterprises that efficiently coordinate people, resources, and tools to create valuable products. Businessmen profit when they bring out valuable products at desirable prices; thus, they are continually making more, better, and cheaper products for everyone to purchase. Businessmen profit when they make others more productive; thus, they are continually seeking to create new jobs that can add to their bottom line, and providing their workers with as many productivity-enhancing tools and technologies as they can. Businessmen's pursuit of profit has been the driving force behind the incalculable increase in our standard of living over the last 150 years--and economic history shows that the freer they are left to make money, the greater the increase in productivity and wages at all levels."

Just in case you forgot to read Adam Smith, or use your brain since it was issued.

Obama Hails a Unicorn: "Overall, Hillary appeared to be the only Democrat even dimly aware that there will eventually be a general election. But she too played to her audience with wacky conspiracy theories. Oops, I mean she 'discussed the Democratic platform in detail.' No need for me to get judgmental.

Hillary raised the Bush-stole-the-2000-election fairy tale, saying: 'I think it is a problem that Bush was elected in 2000. I actually thought somebody else was elected in that election, but ...' (Applause.)

On Nov. 12, 2001, the New York Times ran a front page article that began: 'A comprehensive review of the uncounted Florida ballots from last year's presidential election reveals that George W. Bush would have won even if the United States Supreme Court had allowed the statewide manual recount of the votes that the Florida Supreme Court had ordered to go forward.'

Another Times article that day by Richard L. Berke said that the 'comprehensive review of the uncounted Florida ballots solidifies George W. Bush's legal claim on the White House because it concludes that he would have won under the ground rules prescribed by the Democrats.'

On Nov. 18, 2001, notorious pro-abortion zealot Linda Greenhouse wrote in the Times that the media consortium's count of all the disputed Florida ballots – in which the Times participated – concluded 'that George W. "

I thought the lefties read this rag? At this point, it seems rather moot and Bush has done such a piss poor job of presiding that one would think a look to his dismal record would resonate more strongly that continuing to complain about the election stolen from Owl Gore.

Castro’s Doctors Plot

Castro’s Doctors Plot: "It's easy to see why Party apparatchiks should be so taken with the filmmaker. In Sicko, Moore paid the Cuban regime the ultimate compliment. Taking at face value its claim to provide superior medical service to Cubans and breathing fresh life into official propaganda that health care is one of the great achievements of the Cuban revolution, Moore cut a generous advertisement for Castro's one-party state. Such was the success of the Cuban system, Moore enthused, that the country even dispatched doctors abroad to treat the sick of needy nations."

Just yesterday on NPR, I heard an expose on some American girls who had just returned from her medical training in Cuba. She was enthused and said something to the effect that "Cuba has some of the best medical care in the world!" She is now a "doctor" and is planning on serving in underprivileged areas. On its face, that sounds great; that she went to school on the commies' (or rather their slave's) dime and will now repay the American poor with her ability to serve in low paying areas due to her complete lack of student loans.

After her interview, a doctor from GW came on and seemed pretty un-biased about the whole thing but he did make it clear that Cuba's medical system, while considered one of the "best in the world," was pretty low-tech and primitive. So, basically this dumb-ass chick from America goes to Cuba and gets "free" medical school while Cubans are living on rice and starving for a piece of damned meat. Then, after what, four years or more, she's still too stupid to put two and two together and parrots the "best in the world" mantra. God forbid I ever find myself injured in whatever small town she decides to practice. I'll treat myself thank you.
